Fantastic Mr. Fox Lesson plan Class 1 1. Before reading (“Important vocabulary” slide) Students are shown the first slide of the presentation where they will see some images and some words which will be very important in the context of the story. What they will have to do is match the words with the pictures before they start reading the book. 2. Starting to read Students take turns to read the first chapter aloud. 3. “The farmers” slide Students will match each of the farmers on the slide with the animal they have in their farms. Then, they will match the words on the right with the farmers and explain the relationship between them (e.g. “I match Bean with tall and cider because Farmer Bean is tall and drinks cider”). 4. Homework Students will read chapter 2 at home.

Class 2 1. Q&A competition There will be an envelope on the table with questions about chapters 1 and 2. Students will grab a piece of paper and read the question on it for the rest of the class. Then, they will have 10 seconds to answer it. If they don’t, the question will have to be answered by the student sitting closer to the one who grabbed the paper in the first place. The student with more correct answers at the end of the game will be the winner. 2. Homework Students will read chapter 3 at home.

Class 3 1. New farmer Students know none of the three farmers are succeeding in capturing Mr. Fox, so in pairs they will create a new farmer who may help the other three.

They will have to consider: What kind of famer he is (cow farmer, pig farmer, chicken farmer, etc.) His appearance. How he can help the other farmers. 2. Mr. Fox’s feast By the end of chapter 3, students know that Mr. Fox is planning to throw a party to share his food. They will have to design an invitation to that party and include this information: Where the party is taking place Date and time of the party Names of the animals invited

Class 4 1. Reading chapter 4 Students take turns to read the last chapter of the book. Then they do the three “After you read” activities. 2. Planning a party Students imagine they been hired by Mr. Fox to organize a new feast. They will decide on: the type of party (birthday party, costume party, Christmas party) the menu (food and drink), the place where the party will take place (it should be in a different place from the one that appears in the story), the games to play, the number of guests. They will have a budget of $2000 with which they should buy food, drink and extras (see Mr. Fox’s Party file). I consider this an oral task because they should speak as much English as possible while designing the party. If they haven’t spoken much English while planning the party, they will have to present the final product orally.
